One the objectives of the organization is to facilitate the settlement of disputes between members and their employees, members and the motoring public by conciliation / mediation / arbitration. The Department of Trade and Industry administers the Unfair Business Practices Act 71 of 1988 (as amended) in terms of which certain business practices may be declared unfair business practices and therefore prohibited by the Minister.
The Office of Consumer Protection is committed to protecting consumers against unfair business practices through complaints resolution, investigations, prosecutions, education and voluntary compliance programmes.

The National Home Builders Registration Council was established in terms of the Housing Consumer Protection Measures Act, 1998 (Act No. 95 of 1998). The Council is mainly established to protect the interest of housing consumers, and to regulate the home building industry.
